Step 1: Powerlessness and Unmanageability

This unit introduces Step One. The assignments are broken down into four week-long sections. You can give fewer assignments during that week if the mentee needs more time, or give more assignments if the mentee is effectively completing the work with the appropriate level of commitment and emotion—the four-week breakdown is just a guideline. Using the H.O.W. method will help you to determine a mentee’s state of mind and readiness to take the next Step in recovery.
